2017 SEASON REVIEW AT WHILTON MILL
The 2017 season was quite an unlucky year for me, as I have had many mechanical failures and my 3 year old Kosmic chassis was starting to become not competitive enough at the level I am racing at. Despite Whilton being my main circuit this year, I have ventured to other MSA circuits such as Wombwell and Kimbolton, which both ended in disaster despite me being very competitive.
At Wombwell, I picked up my first two heat wins, which was a good experience. I was pole for the final but a torrential downpour of rain left me in the grass and I did not finish. This did not phase me as I knew that I could take a lot from the weekend.
When I went to Kimbolton, I had a collision in one of the heats that meant the nut from the Stator on the side of the engine became loose, and fell off in the final, meaning I had constant misfires and had to retire. To my despair, I was on worn wet tyres, which was the correct tyre to be on as the circuit was drying out, whilst everyone else was on full wets, which were a lot slower as they had to burn off all of the rubber as there was too much for the drying track. My team mate, who was on worn wets, went on to win the race. This really upset me as I could've battled him for my first Final win, but it was not to be.
At Whilton, I had a lot of bad luck - 2 engine seizures in one weekend, my chassis being old (causing my to have severe understeer) as previously mentioned, and a lot of other issues. The highlight of the season was me finishing 4th out of 34 Super One drivers in a heat around half way through the season. I was very happy with this as I still managed to hold my own against Britain's finest, despite my lack of budget. Somehow, even with my lack of luck, I had managed to enter the final round in 4th place out of 41 members (with the top 5 in the championship getting a championship trophy). The weekend panned out that l had already secured a Top 5 by the final, and I needed to do was keep within 20 positions of my rival in the final to secure 4th. I was incredibly cautious when being in a pack, allowing them all plenty of room so we did not get in an unnecessary collision. I managed to bring the kart home and finish 4th in the championship. I was ecstatic as we have been so unlucky this year. I am really looking forward to the 2018 season on the AIR Kart.
