kimbolton - east anglian trophy
race day 2, sunday: Circuit 1
We continued the East Anglian Trophy meeting into Sunday, which would be a copy of Saturday's race day, except on the first variation of the circuit. The weather was back to normal and we hoped for a good day's racing.
QUALIFYING
It was yet again an incredibly close field in qualifying, with a 7 or 8 drivers being seperated by such a small margin. I qualified 16th, after we struggled a little with tyre temperature, but we were still in the mix. If we went a tenth quicker we would've been a fair few places higher, although I did do my personal best time around Kimbolton so far of a 42.01. I looked forwards to the races.

HEAT 1
In the first heat, we started 16th, and despite only making up 3 places to finish 13th, it was a great race, which I managed well, and was very fast, being just a tenth off the fastest time, and resetting my personal best once again; this time in the 41s finally. This gave me great confidence going into the final two races of the weekend.

HEAT 2
In the second heat, we started 13th, and suffered with understeer throughout the race, having to fight off the mid-pack as well as having to manage a lack of pace. We managed to continue to finish where we started, but I wanted more from the final.

FINAL
We started 13th for the final, and I was unlucky as I was on the inside row, which got a very bad launch at the start in comparison to the outside, meaning I lost 5 or 6 positions instantly through no fault of my own. This left me with work to do, and whilst this was happening my chain had cut the top of the teeth on my sprocket, meaning it was skipping teeth whilst running and making clunking noises, meaning I was slow when drastically accelerating or decelerating. This meant I couldn't calve through the field as i would've liked, although I still managed to get 15th, having some terrific battles and really enjoying myself.

Despite the result not being the trophy we aimed for, I had still had fun, and I could take from the weekend that on the whole my driving was good. This was perfect timing to get into a good rhythm because Whilton Mill Round 5 is up next, and the Super One drivers have mostly gone elsewhere, meaning there is a chance to gain some vital championship points. I look forward to it. Thanks to Alex at AIR Motorsport and my dad for mechanicing, and my whole family for the support. It is highly likely that we will return to Kimbolton in July to keep my head in the game. Stay tuned to see how I do in these upcoming rounds.
